My first scene takes place on a busy street. We see all the people on it walking up and down, entering and exiting shops. All are avoiding a specific area of the street, where a man is sitting, watching certain groups of people intently. At this point we are seeing the world from common society's eyes and the lighting is dull and grey, set on a dreary day. Via a dolly shot the scene switches to being seen from my main character's (the man's) eyes. The lighting, brightness and contrast are much brighter when we see this, yet we see additions to the street. Before the dolly, we see a crowd of youths chatting, but after the dolly, they appear to be pointing and laughing at my main character. Because the change is so sudden we know that in real life the youths are not laughing at him, and I could maybe even use a flickering effect between how they're really standing versus what my main character sees them doing to show that it is just his mind state showing him this. We also see other objects in the background linked in to fairground attractions (to show a simplicity in his intelligence) like clowns and balloons. We could also see other people in the crowd just standing and staring at him.
My second scene is a flashback. This flashback is triggered by a balloon in the crowd. We know it's a flashback via things such as the sound echoing, or fast paced editing. The lighting in this flashback is just as dull as the lighting in common society's, to show that at this point in my main characters life his mental state was normal. We see a young boy of about eight holding a balloon, smiling as he watches a young girl of the same age play on the swing. The girl catches his eye and smiles, and he looks happy.
We are then taken to our first scene. We see the crowd again, and this time a girl of about twelve triggers his flashback.
My third scene is another flash back, this time we see the first young boy looking sad as he watches the twelve year old girl (we realise it is an older version of the first girl) walk past him in the street, into the arms of another boy. The lighting changes, it gets slightly brighter to show his mental state start to change.
Back in the first location, another flashback is triggered by this time a boy of about 16. In this flashback, an older version of the previous twelve year old boy is seen laughing and hitting the first eight year old boy in a park. We notice that the eight year old is staying the same age, whereas the characters around him are growing up. This symbolises his mental state and vulnerability, whereas in real life he is growing older just like the rest of the characters. This could be shown in this scene with a 360 degree dolly, and on one side of an obstacle we see the young boy getting beaten up whereas on the other we see him getting beaten up as the age he really is. In this scene the first girl is shown pulling the second boy away, and the lighting is increasingly getting more colourful and bright.
The next scene is a flashback of a wedding, triggered by a wedding dress shop or a white dress in the crowd . We see the first boy peaking through a window into a church, where we see the adult versions of Girl and Boy 2 getting married. The first boy is crying. The lighting in this scene is almost as bright as in the first scene.
The second to last scene is of the first boy striding through a house with a knife. The lighting is just as colourful as in the first scene. We see that he has tied the woman up in a chair and makes her watch as he stabs her husband. He then releases the woman's gag and we hear crying, he holds the knife to her throat. The last thing we see is the first boy kiss her gently on the cheek before we hear a scream and all fades to black.
The first scene fades in from the black, and we see flickering from the grown man to the small boy. the camera rotates into black before the title sequence starts.
